⚙ Model Assumptions
These are the numbers behind the model. Each has a researched default - enter your own number in the Override column to customize. The calculator updates automatically. Percent fields: enter a whole number (e.g. type 25 for 25%).
About revenue impact (optional)
Two of the assumptions above let you add lost sales to the estimate. They are off by default (revenue set to $0).
Annual Revenue Tied to This Position is the revenue this one seat is responsible for, not company-wide or whole-location revenue: a salesperson's quota, or a location's revenue divided by the number of people in that role.
Revenue Lost While the Seat Is Unfilled is the share of that revenue lost per day the seat is empty or ramping (8%, from a peer-reviewed retail study
[6]). The tool computes: revenue this seat drives per day, times 8%, times vacancy days plus ramp days discounted by the underperformance rate. Because it can swing the total sharply, use a per-position figure and apply it sparingly for roles whose shifts are simply covered by coworkers.
How to read this estimate
Defaults are a blended starting point for both frontline and manager roles; adjust any line for your situation. The model deliberately excludes agency and search fees, team productivity drag, contagion turnover, and (unless you enter revenue) lost sales, so it lands below the widely cited replacement-cost range of roughly one-half to two times annual salary
[4] and SHRM's six-to-nine-month figure
[5]. Treat the result as a conservative floor.
